Slugfest erupts after car slides off road in Indianapolis
Residents in a Northeastside neighborhood were prepared to help when a young couple’s vehicle slid off the road into the snow. When they approached the vehicle, however, the would-be good Samaritans were surprised to see fists flying.
Both the 17-year-old man and 18-year-old woman jumped out of the vehicle, according to a Lawrence Police Department report, and continued fighting in the middle of the street in the 12000 block of Van Spronsen Way. That’s south of 75th Street just west of the Hancock-Marion county line.
When witnesses approached the couple and tried to intervene, “both (man and woman) told them to shut up and mind their own business,” according to the police report.
When an officer arrived the tearful woman begged him to “just leave,” police said.
The officer then spoke with the man, who said he was driving when the woman became angry with him and grabbed the steering wheel, causing their vehicle to careen into the snow.
The woman “then leaned over and bit his nose,” the man said, and also bit his hand when he tried to protect himself.
Though both the man and woman said he had not hit her, the woman complained of pain to her face and eye, police said.
Police arrested both suspects on preliminary charges of battery and battery with injury.
